Annette Funicello's dancing partner was discovered in Fullerton California by Walt Disney at the age of thirteen years old. Funicello did not audition in her place in the Mickey Mouse Club and joined after the beginning of season one of the show, much to the annoyance from her Mickey Mouse Club peers. Disney did the right thing in making the decision as Funicello soon became the major character on The Mickey Mouse Club. She also had an original adventure tale titled Adventures in Dairyland. Funicello was eventually accustomed to recording and loved the time she spent with Camerata who is one of the rare arrangers in their 40s that understood the fundamentals of early rock. Her albums slowly improved beginning with her third album, Annette Sings Anka, probably the first LP that treated the music of a rock musician as repertoire. Funicello was the main character in Beach Party, one of five movies about a beach party that was a huge success. Usually co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films are produced by AIP However, the scripts of every film were personally approved and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's pure image.
